Rear Brake rotors for Mark8/Tbird to change the bolt pattern to 5 on 4 1/2″ lug pattern
Team321 is about solutions… Customers wanted to change the T-bird / Lincoln Mark 8 wheel bolt pattern to the more popular Ford 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern…
This is a very popular topic and I am often asked what is the best / easiest way to do it… Here is a solution that involves purchasing new hubs and new rotors… The rear hubs from a 1999-2004 Cobra IRS are widely available from Ford as well as other sources… They cost around $165 each.
I sell a pair of new rotors machined to the proper wheel bolt pattern and center hole size for $149 / pair… Here are the details.
The T-bird / Lincoln Mark 8 wheel bolt pattern is 5 on 4 1/4 or 108mm. You can change to the more popular 5 on 4 1/2 (114.3mm) by replacing the Mark8 factory hub with a 1999-2004 Mustang Cobra IRS rear wheel hub… Part Number YR3Z-1109-AA.
In the attached image of the mustang hub a red arrow indicates a ring that must fit in the center hole of the brake rotor.
This ring is larger on the Mustang hubs vs. the T-bird / Lincoln hubs. Therefore, the center hole of the brake rotor (pilot hole) must be enlarged to accommodate this larger diameter ring.
The next image shows two T-bird / Lincoln brake rotors. The original is shown in red primer (painted for contrast) and the newly machined version shows the modifications required for changing the bolt pattern. You will notice a second set of 5 holes – for the 5 on 4 1/2″ bolt pattern along with the larger center hole.
With these two components – the hubs and the rotors, you will have a 5 on 4 1/2″ bolt pattern with no additional modifications… you can use the existing calipers, no need for caliper mounting brackets… no machining required on your part… simply press out the old hubs, press in the new ones, install the rotor and caliper and away you go.
One additional thing to point out, it would seem simpler to use the Mustang rotor… but since the mustang rotor is a larger diameter than the T-bird / Lincoln, you would need a bracket to relocate the caliper to accommodate the larger diameter rotor.
