Others have used the term "Complete" to mean a variety of
things. I'm going to do my best to list a "complete" Independent Rear Suspension
and list the cost for all components as well as some other lower-priced alternatives.
These alternatives will allow you to purchase items locally and reduce
both initial cost as well as shipping costs.
A Complete Independent Rear Suspension System consists of the following:
Differential / Ring & Pinion / Pumpkin - this is known
by many names, but it is best described as the piece that the drive shaft
and axles connects to.
Two Axles - including inner and outer CV Joints - specify track
width, HP, vehicle weight
Coilover Shocks and Springs - size and spring rate to be determined on application
Two Lower Control Arms with poly bushings - finished in
customer's choice of Powder Coated colors.
Two Upper Control Arms with poly bushings - finished in customer's
choice of Powder Coated colors.
Two Hub Carriers - finished in customer's choice of Powder Coated
Two Wheel hub / bearing assemblies - specify bolt pattern - 5 on 4 3/4" or 5 on 4 1/2"
Center Section - this is the piece that mounts the differential and ties it all together.
Hardware - All necessary mounting hardware ( Nuts / bolts / etc... )
Now that a "complete suspension" has been defined, here is the
pricing info for various stages of completion.
The total cost for the following items ( excluding shipping
) listed below is $2700
Two Coilover Shocks ( non-adjustable QA1 ) and Coilover springs
Two Lower Control Arms with poly bushings - finished in black Powder
Two Upper Control Arms with poly bushings - finished in black Powder Coat
Two Hub Carriers ( spindles ) - finished in black Powder Coat - included
Two Wheel hub / bearing assemblies - 5 on 4 3/4" bolt pattern or 5 on
4 1/2" - included
All necessary mounting hardware ( Nuts / bolts / etc... ) - included
I can provide the Differential / Ring & Pinion / Pumpkin
Thunderbird style. I do not
inventory the aluminum, Lincoln Mark 8 differentials, but I can usually
locate them. I highly recommend purchasing a differential locally to
save on shipping costs. 1989 - 97 Ford Thunderbird
or the aluminum version from a Lincoln Mark 8
Two Axles - $250 / pair axle shafts only - made your your specified
Inner CV Joints - $100/pair
Outer CV Joint - $100 / pair
Total cost of Axles for lightweight, 250 hp or less vehicles - $450
Total cost of upgrade Axles - $750
2 black, Wilwood Calipers - $135 each - Wilwood p/n 120-6806
2 Rotors ( 2 piece with aluminum hats ) 11.75" diameter 5 on 4 3/4" or
5 on 4 1/2" bolt pattern $165 each (Rotors $35 + aluminum hats $130)
1 Set of 4 brake pads $50
Total cost of Rear Brakes- $270 + $330 + $50 = $650 (3/8" mounting hardware is included)
The Grand total for all components making up a rear suspension
$2700 - Fabricated suspension components
$ 400 - Rear differential
$ 450 - Axles
$ 650 - Rear Brakes
This does not include shipping... There is a $50 packing
charge, since the center section must be mounted in a wooden frame... but
no increase over what UPS charges for shipping. Also, brakes can be added
at a later date to spread out the cost.
